The main role of Sandy Point Community Group (SPCG) is to provide strong advocacy in support of improved facilities, infrastructure, recreational facilities within the local community.
SPCG also conducts community events, especially those which involve community strengthening activities and social events for families, such as the Sandcastle Competitions on the surf beach each year, one in Easter and one during Christmas holidays (usually between Christmas and New Year). Each year in early January we also hold our popular Foodies Market which showcases a range of local food and drinks.
Financial support for local groups and assistance with grant applications is also a role of SPCG. Donations we’ve made to other groups recently have included: Waratah Beach Surf Lifesaving Club for their CPR program, TP Taylor Committee of Management for solar panels and to purchase a defibrillator and the Sandy Point Music Club for the purchase of a stage and lighting. It has acted as the facilitator to apply for grants on behalf of other Sandy Point community groups that are not eligible to apply for grants.
To perform its role, SPCG conducts a few fund raising activities throughout the year.

The Sandy Point community was invited to be part of the initial community planning process
in 2014 with a variety of opportunities to have their say, and there were many ideas put
forward which were collated into the Community Plan. The plan has been updated several
times, most recently at a community meeting in July 2017.

Members of the community are invited to attend SPCG committee meetings, which are held at the Community Centre. The first half hour of each meeting will be available for community members to make a presentation or come to discuss a particular issue. If you have a particular issue to discuss at a meeting please let us know at least 5 days in advance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
