Volunteers needed for the 2nd Sandy Point koala census on Saturday 5th October 2019!
You can register here:
Contribute to local knowledge about our koala population,
learn more about the local koalas, and have a fun day out
doing it. The data collected will help to inform conservation
and management of our koalas.
Lots is being done to protect Sandy Point koalas!
(see more here: ).
A really important part of looking after our koalas is
understanding the size & health of the population and \
tracking any changes over time.
Our first community koala count in 2017 was a fantastic day,
with over 50 people turning out to help with koala spotting all
We again need plenty of keen volunteers to walk through
sections of the town to help count koalas on Sat 5th October 2019.
Here's what you need to know:
• 9am - meet at Sandy Point Community Centre for an intro session and picking up your maps & data sheets
• 10am-12pm - Koala count
• 2 - 1pm - a bbq lunch provided for volunteers
• 1 - 2.30pm - interesting talks from speakers including our partners at Fed Uni (about genetics of koalas at Sandy Point and in South Gippsland) and wildlife carers
How to get involved?
It’s a great family-friendly event, so grab your family, friends and kids and sign up to help survey a section of the town.
**Make sure you register, as we allocate people to areas before the day. If you rock up announced, we probably won't have a job for you! Register here:
