Cattle Egret
COMMON NAME: Cattle Egret
CATEGORIES: Farmland
These occasional visitors to Sandy Point are the smallest of the egrets.
They have a relatively short neck for an egret and splendid orange-rufous breeding plumage.
As they prefer fresh water, you may spot them in inundated fields in surrounding farmland.
They can be seen in groups, often near cattle, who disturb insects on which the Cattle Egrets feed.
