Beach Stone-Curlew
COMMON NAME: Beach Stone-Curlew
In theory, Sandy Point is too far south and out of range for Beach Stone-Curlews. However, every now and again one is spotted locally.
These large shorebirds have distinctive dark brown and white faces with large yellow eyes, a thick bill, brown body and long yellow legs.
They move slowly along the water’s edge while foraging, with the occasional short distance sprint thrown in.
