Beach Stone-Curlew

Australian Beach Stone-Curlew - Theoretically we are way south of their range, but there is one that is rarely seen on the Victorian coast and visited Shallow Inlet earlier this year

COMMON NAME: Beach Stone-Curlew

CATEGORIES: Beach Inlet

In theory, Sandy Point is too far south and out of range for Beach Stone-Curlews. However, every now and again one is spotted locally.

These large shorebirds have distinctive dark brown and white faces with large yellow eyes, a thick bill, brown body and long yellow legs.

They move slowly along the water’s edge while foraging, with the occasional short distance sprint thrown in.
