White-faced Heron
COMMON NAME: White-faced Heron
CATEGORIES: Inlet
A common sight down the inlet, these medium sized grey herons feed in shallow water and out on the mudflats.
White-faced Herons can be observed slowly wading or standing perfectly still in ankle-deep water, pouncing on fish and other small critters.
When breeding, they have lovely brown toned long feathers called nuptial plumes, visible on their head, neck and back.
