Shire Town Masterplan

Following several years of lobbying by the Sandy Point Community Group (with the endorsement of the Community Centre Committee, the Surf Club and the Foreshore Committee) the Shire has begun to consider a township masterplan so that capital funding can be allocated or sought for projects identified within the Plan and undertaken in a coordinated way. The Shire executive met with the SPCG in a Council initiated workshop meeting to discuss township issues and aspirations. This workshop was a prelude to probable masterplan funding, including a community consultation process..

In addition to a tour of the township, we presented ideas from various stakeholders to establish a general preliminary understanding of issues and aspirations considered to be important to the whole community. The Shire will issue a report within the next month or so which will be circulated.

Once that has taken place the Shire will run the community consultation process and begin developing the masterplan itself. We are very grateful for South Gippsland Shire Council's support with this important initiative and we thank those Councillors who have supported us.

Once the masterplan is complete capital works projects will be identified and funding for those projects will be sought. In the interim, some elements of the masterplan may be 'quick wins' through current funding allocations by Council, for example shared roadway safety enhancement.

Having an endorsed masterplan will enable us as a community to source funding for projects that Council may not be able to fund. Overall, it may take many years to deliver all identified projects; however, we will have an endorsed plan and that enables progress.
