Banded Lapwing on the spit at Sandy Point

COMMON NAME: Banded Lapwing

Another rare visitor to Sandy Point, these medium-sized birds are usually found far from water.

However, they have been spotted in the dunes on the spit, probably resting en route to another destination.

Smaller than their commonly seen relative, the Masked Lapwing, they have a distinctive black breast band and small yellow wattles.
