Great Knot

Great Knot on the spit at Sandy Point

COMMON NAME: Great Knot

CATEGORIES: Beach Inlet Migratory

Occasional visitors to Sandy Point over summer, these medium sized grey and white waders breed in Siberia.

They forage on the damp sand at the water’s edge, mainly eating molluscs.

They may be seen in pairs or small groups.

It pays to check groups of the similar looking but smaller Red Knot, because sometimes Great Knots are found in their company.
