Coast Banksia Woodland Project : Activity 6

Walk and Talk on the Roy Henderson Trail

Date:        Friday 29 September 2023 - AFL Grand Final Eve

Time:        1:00PM

Coast Banksia Woodland Project site

Due to the early warm weather the planned weeding activity (Weeding Day 6) has been changed to a walk and talk about indigenous plants along the Roy Henderson Trail which edges the project site.

It will be followed by trackside surveillance into the site, measuring, recording and photographing observations for those interested in staying longer.

The entire activity is expected to take 1-1.5 hours and is suitable for families.

Meet at: The Shallow Inlet gate entry to Roy Henderson Trail where the walk will start from. Look out for the WiSP flag.

Park at: Inlet Carpark (1 minute walk away)

Bring: Protective clothing and shoes suitable for weather and walking on the trail and a bottle of water for personal use.

After the event …

The focus of this activity was changed from weeding to educational due to concerns about the early emergence of snakes.

Participants were able to see the results of our last 5 weeding days and to identify some of the plants in our project area. To aid in identification participants were given a sheet which included 17 of the main indigenous plants seen from the trail. We were very pleased to have 24 adults join our walk as well as 3 children and a number of very well behaved dogs.

After the walk we surveyed the areas where weeds had been removed, and identified areas for the upcoming weed spraying by the contractor.
