Ruddy Turnstone

Ruddy Turnstone on the spit at Sandy Point

COMMON NAME: Common name

CATEGORIES: Beach Migratory

These migratory birds are rare visitors to Sandy Point.

These rotund waders can be seen on their own, in small groups and in the company of other shorebirds.

They favour pebbly beaches and lots of seaweed, so Sandy Point is not their preferred habitat.

It’s likely that those spotted on the spit are just dropping in briefly on their way elsewhere.
