Siberian Sand Plover
COMMON NAME: Siberian Sand Plover
CATEGORIES: Beach Inlet Migratory
These elegant small to medium waders are rare visitors to Sandy Point.
These migratory birds breed in Siberia and make the trip to Australia over our summer.
Most of them stay up north, but small numbers make it down to the south coast.
They feed on mudflats and sandy beaches, foraging for molluscs, worms, crustaceans and insects.
